Art of Observation Tour Description

K-12th grades

A general introduction to select works of art in the collection of American art dating from the Colonial period to the present.  Tours focus on looking carefully at art, reading art like literature, practicing analytical and critical thinking skills through a variety of conversations and activities.

Learning objectives: Students who experience an Art of Observation tour will be able to

  • Analyze works of art using at least two strategies/approaches to (from interactive discussion to written expression or games)
  • Practice visual literacy skills of observation and interpretation
  • Compare elements of different works of art
  • Entertain and communicate different viewpoints, grounded in their observations in the works of art
