Wings of Adventure: Smith Reynolds and the Flight of 898 Whiskey

Mary and Charlie Babcock Wing Gallery

On September 8, 2007, Reynolda House opened Wings of Adventure: Smith Reynolds and the Flight of 898 Whiskey. The exhibition examined the golden age of aviation in America, the role that the Reynolds family played in popularizing this growing pastime, and Smith Reynolds’ daring flight from London to Hong Kong in 1931-32. The exhibition and related programs explored the impact of aviation on the national imagination and on cultural fields from film to literature to art. The highlight of the exhibition was the installation of a 1930 S-56 Savoia Marchetti aircraft in our Babcock Gallery.
