Morning with a Curator

Thomas Frank, curator of Black Mountain College: Seedbed of American Art, will give a gallery talk at Reynolda on the subject of his exhibition about the experimental college in Western North Carolina. Open from 1933 to 1957, Black Mountain College nurtured or launched the careers of several important American artists. Frank is professor emeritus from Wake Forest University and an editor of the Black Mountain Studies Journal. He has selected works by former students and faculty of the college from the collections of Reynolda and Wake Forest, including Josef and Anni Albers, Jacob Lawrence, Elaine de Kooning, Lyonel Feininger, Ben Shahn, and Robert Rauschenberg.

The gallery talk is free, but registration is requested.

Please gather in the Lake Porch at 11:00 a.m. Space in the exhibition’s gallery is limited; visitors will be admitted in groups of eight to see the art and hear from the curator, while others are asked to wait for a later time. The exhibition will be on display through June 25, 2023.
